How to get rid of stink bugs

It's that time of year when the stink bugs crawl out from wherever they have been hiding to bask on the outside wall of the sunny side of our house. And maybe if they would stay outside on that sunny wall I wouldn't mind them so much, but they insist on buzzing around our heads and following us inside until there is a faint yet ever-present smell throughout the house and you can just TASTE it, even if you didn't actually swallow one, which once happened to my husband, Tony. Tony drinks about eight cans of Diet Cherry Dr. Pepper every day, which is a complicated habit to support owing to the fact that Diet Cherry Dr. Pepper is hard to find, at least it is if you live somewhere other than Texas, as we do. I don't know what it is about Texans and Dr. Pepper, but if you go to Texas you have absolutely no problem finding Dr. Pepper whereas, in New York City, where you can arguably find anything in the world, you will not find Diet Cherry Dr. Pepper. Here in Virginia they have it, but each grocery store only carries an inventory of about four 12-packs at a time, so we have to run from store to store to buy whatever they have. But I don't want to make us sound greedy, because we almost always leave at least one 12-pack on the rack for the other people in town who drink it and would go through withdrawal if they didn't have their Diet Cherry Dr. Pepper fix. So to protect his precious Diet Cherry Dr. Pepper from the stink bugs (and they do seem to like Diet Cherry Dr. Pepper) Tony oh-so-carefully opens the can top just a teensy little bit. As in, not wide enough for a stink bug to get into. Because once Tony drank a stink bug and then he really DID taste the smell of a stink bug and apparently it's just one of those things that, once you taste it, you can't shake off the oral-olfactory memory. It's like post traumatic stress of the taste buds and the flavor can come back when you least expect it, and seemingly unprovoked.

How I Did It

I have to confess that this is a rather misleading post because, in actuality, you cannot get rid of stink bugs. I remember I used to complain about the lady bugs back when I first moved into this house in 2002. During certain times of the year there would be lady bugs everywhere, like crawling around on the living room ceiling, in the corners of the bedrooms. Lady bugs are cute, but less so when they are crawling, en mass, all over your ceiling. Back then people said you can't get rid of the lady bugs, so just suck it up. Well, the lady bugs are gone now because the fucking stink bugs came and ate them. I find myself wondering what kind of awful thing is going to come along in another 10 years that will eat the stink bugs? I can tell you that not even my Jack Russells will eat a stink bug yet they think deer shit is a tasty treat. So I'm not actually very hopeful about finding anything better than the BugZooka to take care of those stink bugs in the near future. But that's okay because the BugZooka is awesome. As A.Leanse from Dallas, Texas commented in a review on the bugzooka.com website, “Now that we have a BugZooka, I actually like when I find a bug in the house. It really is fun to use.” Gotta love those Texans, sitting around drinking Dr. Pepper and zapping bugs with the amazing BugZooka. It doesn't get much better than that. Wanna buy one? Go here.
